How we vet our carers
Our Carer Verification Process
Before a self-employed carer can ever be introduced to a client through My Life My Care, they must pass through every stage of our vetting process, no shortcuts, no exceptions.
1
Carers must provide:
Valid photographic identification
Evidence of their right to work in the United Kingdom
This confirms identity and legal eligibility to work, the foundation every introduction is built on.
2
Carers must provide:
Public Liability Insurance
This confirms identity and legal eligibility to work, the foundation every introduction is built on.
3
Carers must provide evidence such as:
HMRC registration documentation
Tax correspondence showing their name and Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR)
This ensures every carer we introduce is operating legitimately and transparently.
4
Carers must provide:
An Enhanced DBS Certificate
Evidence the certificate is registered with the DBS Update Service
This allows for ongoing monitoring, giving families lasting reassurance, not just a one-time check.oduction is built on.
5
All carers must hold certificates dated within the previous 12 months for:
Basic Life Support
Manual Handling
Medication Awareness
Safeguarding Awareness
Dementia Care
Current knowledge. Current skills. Current peace of mind.
6
Carers must provide:
An up-to-date CV
A completed Employment Gap Explanation Form where applicable
We look closely at every carer's history, and any gaps are always explained, because safer recruitment means asking the questions others don't
7
Every carer must supply care-related references, including:
Dates of employment or engagement
Referee name
Contact telephone number
Email address
A minimum of two care-related references is required before any introduction is made. And we don't just read them — wherever possible, we independently verify every reference by phone or email, confirming authenticity and gaining real insight into a carer's reliability, professionalism, and suitability.
8
Every carer completes a personal video interview with our team, where we assess:
Communication skills
Professionalism
Understanding of person-centred care
Safeguarding awareness
Experience and competencies
Values and suitability for working with vulnerable adults
Professional boundaries and conduc
Some things simply can't be judged from a piece of paper, this is where we see the person behind the profile.
9
Every carer completes a Health Questionnaire confirming they're able to safely and fully carry out the responsibilities of their role.
10
To enable thoughtful, accurate matching, carers also provide:
A professional profile photograph
Confirmation of their UK location
Confirmation of hourly or daily rates
Expense expectations (food and travel)
The type of care they wish to provide, Visiting Care, Live-in Care, or both
Every detail matters when we're matching a carer to your family's life, not just your care needs.
Our commitment
Why Our Process Matters
Many introductory care services stop at basic documentation. We believe families deserve more than that.
The MLMC Approved Carer Standard brings together every stage of our vetting process and applies it consistently to every self-employed carer, with no shortcuts and no exceptions.
By maintaining the same standard for every introduction, we help families move forward with greater confidence and ensure carers meet the professional standards expected before they are introduced.
